Low Washer Fluid

Kind of a strange question I know, but any indicator light bugs the heck out of me....Anyway, every time I started my truck lately, the "LOW WASHER FLUID" light would come on. This went on for a few days until I finally went to Wal-Mart and got a gallon jug of washer fluid yesterday. I proceeded to fill it up in the Wal-Mart lot and lo and behold, I only got about 1/2 gallon in. I thought well thats weird. It was full to overflowing slightly-The light still came on. I started and stopped the truck several times and it indicated each time. This made me suspect a bad sensor or loose connection, when I got home I took out the battery/tray to get at it, and I finally found the sending unit from underneath the truck. I unplugged it, looked at it and plugged it back in. Now the light is staying off (for one day anyway.) Did this clear up by "A" Unplugging the switch, or "B" disconnecting the battery? (Probably impossible to answer I know) Do I need a new sending unit? Is it like a float switch or what? Thanks for anyhelp...Truck info is in my sig...

Hard to say what happened. It's a float type switch, and they definitely go bad. Make sure if you replace it you put it in the right way.

Thanks for the rapid response, I figured it would be hard to troubleshoot due to all the possible problems....It seems to be working now so I'll worry about it when it reoccurs. Thanks again!!
