You won't believe what they changed for '05

Tried to program the auto door locks to not lock automatically and couldn't figure out how to do it. So I thought I'd just take it to the dealership and have them hook up and disable it.

NOT!!!!! :D

Some pencilhead decided to change the programming so you can't turn off the auto door locks (safety issues they said  ). Even the dealership with the Tech 2 scanner can't do it....so they say.

The gal behind the counter made the comment that they get a lot of people in complaining about this. DUH!!!

I'm thinking the way to do it is to fool the computer into thinking the truck is always in park. I'm hoping there's a single wire I could cut between the gear shifter and the door lock module so it never knows it's in gear. (kinda like cutting the one wire to disable the door open-key in ignition chime)

Any advice or other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

BTW anyone else feel like they are blinded by the high beam indicator? Dealership said they can't dim that either. Guess a piece of electrical tape will have to do.

Love the truck, just wish they would leave well enough alone.

Have you tried to reprogram it yourself? Below are the instructions...might be worth a try:

Door Locks

Your vehicle may be equipped with an automatic

lock/unlock feature which enables you to program your

vehicle’s power door locks. You can program this

feature through the Driver Information Center (DIC), or

by the following method.

Programmable Locking Feature

The following is the list of available programming

options:

Mode 1: All doors lock when the transmission is shifted

into gear. This is the mode that is pre-programmed in

the factory for your vehicle for automatic transmission

vehicles.

Mode 2: All doors lock when the vehicle speed is

greater than 8 mph (13 km/h). This is the mode that is

pre-programmed in the factory for manual transmission

vehicles.

To enter the program mode, do the following:

1. Begin with the ignition off. Then pull the turn

signal/multifunction lever toward you and hold

it there while you perform the next step.

2. Turn the key to RUN then back to LOCK twice.

Then, with the key in LOCK, release the turn

signal/multifunction lever. Once you do this, the

doors will lock and unlock, the horn will chirp twice,

and a 30-second timer will begin. You are now

ready to program the automatic door lock feature.

3. Press the door lock switch once. You will hear one,

two, or three chimes. The number of chimes tells

you which lock mode is currently selected. Continue

to press the door lock switch until the number of

chimes that you hear matches the number of

the mode that you want. If you take longer than

30 seconds, the locks will automatically lock

and unlock and the horn will chirp twice to indicate

that you have left the program mode. If this

occurs, you can repeat the procedure beginning

with Step 1 to re-enter the programming mode.

As for the high beam indicator, I have the same problem and solved it by going to Walmart, purchasing a sheet of the window tint in the automotive section, cutting a half circle of it and placing it over the high beam indicator. Worked like a charm and looks good too. It was enough to darken it down and now it's just perfect. Granted, can't see in the daytime if lights were on bright and it darkens it too much for daylight use but with the autoheadlights I don't think this is a problem.

Just curious what the big deal is about the doors locking as you drive? Not much need to open your door while driving down teh street. I guess if you stop and leave the truck running would be the only hassle but you just have to unlock the door one time to get out right?

BAD NEWS.............Because of some new goverment reg. you CANNOT

disable the auto locks on the 05s...............................

Two reasons. One, I plan on having this truck for a loooong time and I can just see 20 years down the road having my door locks malfunction because they have been locked and unlocked so many times and have worn out.

Two, it is extremely annoying when I am getting hay because passengers, and driver sometimes, are getting in and out while driving down the fields and having to screw around with the darn doors that keep locking gets old real quick. I put up with it one trip when I had my other truck before I took it to the dealer and had them reprogram it.

The only two programming choices are either they lock immediatly when put in gear, or lock at 8 mph. The end result is still the same.

Hmmmm... I'd be hunting for the relay that actuates the locks and pull it. It shouldn't be hard to find. Just press the lock button and listen for it. It might be up under the hood in the main electrical box. Granted, you wouldn't be able to use the power lock feature any more, but then again, you may not want it if you're on a farm unless you're afraid of your cows breaking in and stealing all the range cubes!

It is annoying for people that have to have trucks...construction workers and farmers. Anyone that is constantly getting in and out of the truck. It is no big deal for city dwellers and peopel who have just bought a truck for a status symbol.

I agree with you GMC2500sle, if I wanted the doors to lock, I'll lock them. I too disabled mine as it was always a hassle having them lock, stop somewhere to drop something off, go around to the passenger door and find it locked. Just a pain and I don't need big brother watching out for me quite that much.

As for the high beam, Bgdsub72, if you know of something the dealer can do, please let us know as I've talked with three different service managers at three different GM locations and all of them said no fix for the 04 or 05 as it was "already programmed into the system". Man, would I love to find a fix for the bright blue light other than window tint :D

The dealership reprogrammed the high beam indicator on my '03, so I am not really sure why they can't do the same on an '05. Try a different dealer?

The HIGH BEAM INDICATOR problem still exists for 2004 and newer trucks. Mine included!!! :D

The current TSB is for 2003 models only.

I see that there are two complaints on this shown below at the

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Add your complaint to the list. Maybe something will get done if enough complaints get registered here. It sure will help!

Yeah that is why I bought a truck so I could look cool for my neighbors along with having some empty garage space that...well....just looked empty so I had to find something to fill it.! :D

Thanks for the heads up mjwencl as I just submitted my complaint to NHTSA......we'll see, perhaps enough folks complain this problem will be resolved. Thanks.

Guyz, the dealer will program this for free. Just take it in. Do a search for ''high beam'' or something similar on this board's search engine. Our fleet trucks which are new '05s that just came in had a couple with bright highs on them and they were fixed by reprogramming. Not sure what the deal is with the three Alaskan dealers. :D

    • Whoever greenlighted the work truck matte black front bumpers on every trim but the AT4X should be fired!  I was hoping that was an AI mistake, but just realized they were on every model of the 2027 Silverado too.     Some parts of the interior do look premium, but the Denali Ultimate dashboard looks like an afterthought.  At least they appear to have lost the microfiber the high end Silverado models showed, but the '27 High Country dash looks better than the Denali.
    • New member here. I am researching a read-first event-recorder concept for late-model GM V8 trucks. This is not a sales post. There is no product link, price, preorder, or mailing list. I am trying to determine whether the underlying problem is real before building anything.   Has your truck ever had a brief problem such as: - rough running or a momentary misfire - an oil-pressure warning or unusual pressure event - reduced power or a brief stall - a U-code or lost-communication problem - a symptom that disappeared before the dealer or independent shop could reproduce it   If so, I would appreciate the following details: - year, model, engine, and mileage - what happened and under what conditions - whether a DTC and useful freeze-frame data were stored - whether the shop was able to reproduce it - what the eventual confirmed repair was, if known - what additional information would have helped the diagnosis   The concept being evaluated is a removable leave-in recorder that continuously retains a rolling window from before and after an event. It would not tune, reflash, clear codes, or change the vehicle calibration.   I am also not claiming that it could predict lifter failure or see every internal ECM variable.   The real question is whether continuous event history would add enough useful evidence beyond freeze frame, GDS2, and existing scan tools — or whether it would simply be another unnecessary gadget.   For owners and technicians, which problem would make something like this genuinely useful: 1. intermittent misfire or AFM/DFM-related behavior 2. oil-pressure events 3. lost communication or electrical faults 4. none of the above Please be blunt. Negative feedback is just as useful as positive feedback.
    • No tears over the SLE and SLT trim levels disappearing but I kind of loathe the "Elevation" name. It's a truck--skip the elegance.   The slab-dashboard design is decidedly different. Almost has a Hummer flavor to it. "Professional Grade" seems to be leaning very white-collar, tech-driven these days moreso than blue-collar, functional design.   The Silverado would be my choice between the two new trucks. Pleased with the engine lineup in both. The GMC is a little "too much" for a truck, IMO, and the Denali borders on ridiculous - but I do know there are buyers for luxury trucks out there. It's just not my speed.

    • - I like the outside but not as much as the Chevrolet.  They ICE'd the EV styling and it works, but I think exterior goes to Chevy on this one.     - SLE and SLT dead = Not.  Surprising.  Fits into the rest of the GMC lineup like this which (aside from Pro) matches the rest of the family.  Elevation, AT4, Denali.     - Interior.  Sophisticated Malaise era.  Why do I say Malaise?  Drawn with a ruler.  Rectangles everywhere.  Looks very premium though.
