Cheekster96 Posted April 15, 2005 Posted April 15, 2005 hello gang. i did some reasearch on the tow/haul mode and didnt really see anything that might help my question. I just bought a 2003 Sierra SL (work truck and yes, they do come with vinyl flooring!) with the Vortec 4800 and four speed auto. on the gearshift, it has the button for the tow/haul mode and the picture of the trailer on the gearshift as well. i looked it up in my manual and saw the light for the mode on the instrument panel but mine does not work. could this be because it is not installed but the button is just there??? any thoughts or suggestions? this is my first "newer" truck. thanks all. Lee <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You should be able to tell by the way it shifts. It should hold the gears longer and shift a little harder. If that doesn't happen then something is amiss.
MrQuadrasteer Posted April 15, 2005 Posted April 15, 2005 Bah.... that's what I was gonna say, Crew ;) !!
Cheekster96 Posted April 15, 2005 Author Posted April 15, 2005 There is no change at all when the button is pushed. i was at a stoplight and pushed it..didnt see a change. got to another stop light and pushed the button again, still, shifted the same.... could it be a fuse? Lee
Markeaux Posted April 16, 2005 Posted April 16, 2005 I think someone recently said they found a broken wire/connection in their T/H circuit ... maybe search this forum?
willieboy Posted April 16, 2005 Posted April 16, 2005 Thats right, I forgot someone did say the wire got broke for their tow haul. It was down in the steering column close to the pivet.
sonjaab Posted April 16, 2005 Posted April 16, 2005 CHEEKSTER................Does the little light that looks like a trailer light up (its on top of the speedo numbers...on the right) when you push the tow/haul button on? ......................geo
Cheekster96 Posted April 16, 2005 Author Posted April 16, 2005 sonjaab...i get no light on the dash. i looked it up in the owners manual...saw where the light is at and i do not get it when the button is pushed. i looked under the steering column and then under the dash and didnt see anything out of the ordinary. i still have a warranty from the dealership..is this a big issue or should i just go without? i dont plan on doing any major towing (maybe my 3500# boat in Drive). i use all my heavy hauling and towing with my K20 and she doesnt break a sweat. granted, i dont go past 55 with it. 235/85/16 tires, 4.10s and the TH400..makes the engine wind up a bit im sure. any more recommendations? Lee
99-2door Posted April 16, 2005 Posted April 16, 2005 If it is under warranty, why not get it fixed? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If you still have the warranty take advantage of it. No reason to not have this feature for the life of your truck when you can get it fixed now at no cost.
sonjaab Posted April 17, 2005 Posted April 17, 2005 LEE....................NO little trailer icon light huh? Best off checking the fuse center(s) for a popped fuse before ya hassle with the dealer. Owners manual will/should show what fuse it is. But if its not a fuse......WARRANTY TIME ! I love the tow/haul mode for plowing snow. Keeps the tranny in 1st during a long push instead of it shifting back and forth or hunting between gears shoving the HEAVY "white gold" !!!!............geo

My heavy trucks never seem to even break a sweat even when stacking it too.
Cheekster96 Posted April 17, 2005 Author Posted April 17, 2005 I ll go out and check the fuse panel now and look in the owners manual for the fuse(s). If i dont find any blown fuses, then i will take the truck to the dealership. The front end is also making some grinding sounds when the brakes are applied. They put on new breaks in the rear (not sure if it was just pads or rotors and pads) but never the less, put on a new inpsection sticker for me. The warranty is only good for 30 days/1000 miles. i wont sit on it. i ll keep all posted.. thanks. Lee ps..how soft is the break pedal suppose to be? mine is pretty soft. it doesnt go to the floor, but it does seem alot of effort is required to stop the truck. my 87 K20 (13" drums in the back) uses hardly any break pressure to stop the truck down. Lee
Cheekster96 Posted April 17, 2005 Author Posted April 17, 2005 well, went fiddling around the THREE fuse blocks in the truck, went thru the owners manual looking at all the fuses and their definations. not one said anything about the tow/haul. saw one for the tranny (safety switch where you cant start in drive). i ll just end up taking it to the dealer.
