Too Much Time on My Hands?

Having done this once before on another vehicle and being particularly bored yesterday, I decided to give it a shot on my new Silverado, so I used a good All-Purpose Metal Cleaner/Polish to clean my entire Exhaust system from muffler to tips.

The first application didn't do much but smear dirt and grime, but by the 2nd and 3rd application (about an hour and half worth of time), the shine of the stainless steel exhaust started coming through. I don't know if it is evident or not in the pictures, but you can really see the shine standing away from the truck and I think it just adds another bit of detail to your exhaust.

From experience, subsequent applications are not near as "exhaustive", and if you clean the system once a month or so, it will stay looking just as good.

The last picture is just of the Magnaflow stainless steel tips I'm using.

Dude, if you could only see my truck now. It is planting season and it looks like it has been dug up, probly dirtier now than it has ever been.

Enjoy the spare time you have now, as you get older, it will disappear and you will wonder what happened!!

BTW, looks good! Want to trade trucks for about a week?? Mine needs some attention!

The underside of my truck looked that nice once. That would be the day I drove it out of the showroom, 6 years ago.

we're planting right now too, the sierra isn't going anywhere near the fields right now (just cleaned it). I just take old faithful. Too bad the only people that will see the muffler to front of the exhaust tip are the ones you tell to have a look at the good shinning job you did. But it does look good.

You might be surprised at how visible it actually is to even a casual glance when it is clean like that.

But yeah, at 35+, I definitely don't have the endurance to keep it as detailed as I did in my 20's. I only armour-all the engine components once every couple of months now.

This was my previous ride....

in the second pic your hanger is not hoked up!

look closer, right above the leaf spring there is one of those universal exhaust mount brackets bolted to the frame. Def not my first choice of hanger but I guess it gets the job done.

Austin, do you work or are you independantly wealthy???

I am 35+, farm and have a wife and two kids. The time to polish my exhaust is way past gone. I am lucky to wash my truck once per month these days while trying to keep the Burban in tip top shape and keep her Impalla in nice shape too.

I guess 3 takes a lot more time than just one, + I use my truck like a truck anymore. Sad, but true.

BTW, the Marq. looks good for a Furd!
