Power Window Switches

71GMC_3/4T

Question

Hi GM-Tech!

I'm wondering if I should worry about water dripping in the window onto the switch panel of the driver's door. Will the water do damage to the switches, or are they sealed?

Thanks!, and Thanks for your support of this forum!!

Yeah I have wondered this too. But I have gotten a bit of water on the switches on more then a few occassions in the 3.5+ years I have had the truck, and so far no problems. They are in a horrible spot for rain and such when the door or windows are open.

Answer Yes!!!!...

A little dripping will not hurt, but serious moisture will incapacitate...

If you are driving an early model you should fear for the glass regulators also...

they are made with galvanized steel wire (Not Stainless)...

WILL rust and WILL need replacement

Thanks All!

It isn't constantly exposed, only when I roll down the window a little and the water runs across the roof and into the window during a light rain. I suppose ventshades would help, but I really don't want to stick them onto my truck.

While we're at it, how do you pop the switch block out of the door? Does it just pry out, or is it held in some other way. Same for the steering wheel control switches - how do you get them out?

Thanks again!
