MOORESVILLE, N.C. – Chevrolet and Dale Earnhardt Incorporated (DEI) today unveiled the new 2006 Chevrolet Silverado Intimidator SS honoring the late Dale Earnhardt during a special celebration for the seven-time NASCAR Winston Cup champion and team owner.

Chevrolet plans a limited production run of 1,333 Silverado Intimidator SS trucks and unveiled its newest signature edition model at DEI. The event included thousands of Earnhardt and DEI fans who make the visit to the race shop each year for “Dale Earnhardt Day” commemorating the racing legend’s birthday.

“We are very proud of the long-time association between Chevrolet and the Earnhardt family,” said Ed Peper, Chevrolet general manager. “Dale’s legacy is unique within racing, and we are excited about this opportunity to offer fans a vehicle they can so closely identify with one of their heroes.”

The Intimidator SS is based on a well-equipped 2006 Silverado SS featuring the GM’s Vortec 6000 V-8, which pumps out 345 horsepower (257 kw) and 380 lb.-ft. (515 Nm) of torque. It will also feature a performance-tuned suspension, two-stage multi-leaf springs, Tenneco shock absorbers, a stiffer front stabilizer bar and stiffer front jounce bumpers.

Its exterior scheme begins with a lowered ride height and a striking black monochromatic color highlighted with ‘Intimidator’ badging on the tailgate and doors, a unique race-inspired tailgate spoiler and a unique silver front grille insert. The Intimidator SS also has 20-inch chrome wheels.

The interior boasts a black leather steering wheel with the Dale Earnhardt Legacy logo embroidered on the front headrests with optional dark charcoal leather seating surfaces. Other features include Dale Earnhardt’s signature on the white, backlit gauge cluster, the ‘Intimidator’ badge on the instrument panel and floor mats with the ‘Intimidator’ script.

Other features consistent with the 2006 Chevy Silverado SS include a 4-speed electronically controlled transmission, 3.73 final drive ratio, locking differential, cruise control, rear defogger, keyless entry, cloth split bench seats, power seat adjuster, steering wheel radio controls, power windows, engine oil cooler, transmission oil cooler and rear-wheel, 2-wheel rear drive.

The Silverado Intimidator SS is the sixth signature edition vehicle offered by Chevrolet and is considered by some fans to be the ultimate in NASCAR-themed collectibles. Previous editions were: the 2002 Dale Earnhardt Signature Edition Monte Carlo (3,333 units); the 2003 Jeff Gordon Signature Edition Monte Carlo (2,424 units); the 2004 Monte Carlo Intimidator SS (4,000 units); the 2004 Dale Earnhardt Jr. Signature Series Supercharged SS Monte Carlo (2,883 units); and the 2005 Tony Stewart Signature Series Supercharged SS (1,020 units.) Chevrolet will make a donation from the sale of the Silverado Intimidator SS to the Dale Earnhardt Foundation, a charity specifically chosen by the Earnhardt family. The foundation is committed to carrying on Earnhardt’s legacy and the charitable causes he supported during his lifetime. Chevrolet has already donated more than $1 million from the five previous signature edition models.

Is it me or is there a dent in the door? Right under Dale's sig.

If you go on the GM insider link there are blow ups of the pic. You can see the rear end of a car in the reflection on the door. But at a glance it does look like a ding.

The truck is a waste, it's nothing new. Just a couple of decals and a mini truck spoiler. Come on, GM put in some power to justify calling it an SS.

Yet another Silverado SS. Still just an LQ9. They are just gonna slap DEI badges and stuff all over it and tag on another 20 grand!! Hooray for GM!!

Man...I think this is crap. I hate how GM is jumping on this sissy NASCAR bandwagaon. It's amazing to me what people will buy these days. Just cause its got Dale's name on it doesn't mean its any more valuable...or ever will be. you wanna oval track race? Do it at 240 mph like the real race car drivers (Indy, CART, F1), and do it without bumping into each other. :jester: Sorry..very anti NASCAR.

And as for the new SS? If it were up to me, it'd be an LS7 and 6 speed to combat the SRT-10 and 06' Lightnings...and SINGLE CAB.

Definitely a waste. Pretty much an appearance package. They should've done forced induction and a 6speed manual on a real lowered single cab chassis. The spoiler is just lame IMHO.

Chevy ought to make the SS package across the board. Single cab, extended cab and crew cab configurations. You single guys with no kids have no idea how great a crew cab truck is. If it hauls ass, it's even better.

This is exactly what I've been complaining about. In another thread, someone mentioned the new GTO and all I see is a rebadged hybrid Grand Am/Bonneville/Grand Prix. I mean come on. I understand keeping costs down, but if you're going to "pay tribute" to an icon whether it's the GTO or Dale, don't do it half-assed. With all the education designers have, you would think they could come up with something unique.

I agree, the enemy's RT/10 is a real race truck. GM can make the AWD, ext cab, small block for all of us practical people but make a 2wd, BBL, manual, for the enthusiasts.

As for the GTO, it is taking off where the Camaro left off. The most HP for the dollar on the market, hands down. They are not trying to reinvent the wheel with it. It is a pony car. I wouldn't be bashing on it too much. It packs the 6.0L Gen IV LS2 underneath it's "Bonneville" hood. RWD, 6 speed, 400HP, argh, argh argh. That's that Tim the Tool man power.

Its kinda sad how GM will throw an LS2 into a dam Trailblazer and call it an SS. But they cant put an LS2 into a reg cab Silverado. That confuses me...... But lately on GMInsideNews there has been a few threads about a reg cab Silverado SS. Bumping up the compression to produce 395 flywheel HP. Should be interesting. But it was also said too that GM is killing the AWD SS platform.

    • Fred was in the fertilized egg business. He had several hundred young pullets, and ten roosters to fertilize the eggs He kept records, and any rooster not performing went into the soup pot and was replaced. This took a lot of time, so he bought some tiny bells and attached them to his roosters. Each bell had a different tone, so he could tell from a distance, which rooster was performing. Now, he could sit on the porch and fill out an efficiency report by just listening to the bells. Fred's favourite rooster, old Butch, was a very fine specimen, but this morning he noticed old Butch's bell hadn't rung at all! When he went to investigate, he saw the other roosters were busy chasing pullets, bells-a-ringing, but the pullets, hearing the roosters coming, would run for cover. To Fred's amazement, old Butch had his bell in his beak, so it couldn't ring. He'd sneak up on a pullet, do his job and walk on to the next one. Fred was so proud of old Butch, he entered him in the City Show and he became an overnight sensation among the judges. The result was the judges not only awarded old Butch the "No Bell Piece Prize," but they also awarded him the "Pulletsurprise" as well. Clearly old Butch was a politician in the making. Who else but a politician could figure out how to win two of the most coveted awards on our planet by being the best at sneaking up on the unsuspecting populace and screwing them when they weren't paying attention. Vote carefully in the next election, you can't always hear the bells.
    • Can someone confirm if the GM order workbench terminal is able to validate a custom build sequence:   1) Initialize the Allocation Base: Open a new vehicle build queue, select the 2026 Chevrolet Suburban 4WD, and pick the High Country (3LZ Preferred Equipment Group).   2) Select the Diesel Powertrain: Go directly to the engine configuration screen and choose RPO code LZ0 (3.0L Duramax Turbo-Diesel). Ensure it maps to the MHS 10-speed automatic transmission.   3) Deploy the Seating Swap: Navigate to the Interior Options screen and enter RPO code ATT to replace the standard captain's chairs with the power-release 60/40 bench seat. Because you are not trying to force a separate luxury or air-suspension bundle, the standard, premium D07 Fixed Floor Console remains active. The system will accept this change immediately without triggering a warning message.   3)Apply Heavy-Duty Hauling Capability: Input RPO code NHT (Max Trailering Package). The commercial terminal will automatically bundle the required trailering hardware and software modules to support the diesel engine's maximum towing capacity.   5) Layer the Premium Tech and Glass: Separately add code C3U (Panoramic Power Sunroof) and code UKL (Super Cruise) to the order screen.   6) Run the Final Validation: Click the "Validate Order" button at the bottom of the interface.
    • Spent the last hour or 2 googling and reading up on the spacer thing. I don't like the loss of thread contact on the slip on spacers, but it appears you can get "extended" lug nuts that reach into the hole of the wheel to get back the lost threads. Looks like the only true hubcentric slip on spacers are at least .375". I'd want as little as I could get away with and don't want to cause other clearance issues going any thicker. Bora seems to offer what appears to be a well made .375" spacer and extended lug nuts. I searched here and did find a couple threads recommending Bora. But not cheap. By the time I buy spacers and lugs, new TPMS sensors, then pay a tire shop to install the new sensors, I suspect I'm going to be in over $400. Thinking about running out and getting some washers to put behind the wheel to see if .375" is enough to clear calipers, turn lock to lock without rubbing, and to see if the wheels/tires look strange pushed out a little. This would just be to check fitment.
    • Roadmaster makes some quality parts; I have their sway bar. I considered the RAS, but I ended up bagging. I didn't know what kind of ride I'd get with RAS, and the bags have interior jounce bumpers, so I can run 0 pounds pressure. I figured I'd have the best of normal suspension ride with assist on-demand. But it seems you got pretty much the same in one item.
