Clicking Sound

I swear I found a post on this once, but I can't relocate it. I noticed the other day that when my truck is sitting and idling I can hear a faint clicking sound coming from somewhere in the engine bay? I don't think it's anything mechanical at all because the sound either goes away or is drowned out when I give it some gas. Anyone have any idea what it may be? The engine has been idleing a little rough lately, but thats the only problem. I plan on changing plugs/fuel filter/check EGR valve soon. Truck is a 00 z71 5.3L with 68K.

I am not sure how your engine is setup and without looking how mine is setup. So if anyone out there has more info on this let me know. Anyways, I had a similiar issue on a 99 Pontiac Grand Prix. It used to drive me nuts. Turns out it was a belt tensioner. Depending on the load and tightness of the belt and so on would determine how often it clicked. The thing was it was constantly clicking at idle. I ended up changing the serpentine belt figuring that the belt and that seemed to fix my problem. I suppose that the belt had just gotten weak and/ or stretched and was making the pulley belt tensioner flux capacitor work too much. Again - I do not know if this is even in the right ball park. Other than that I have heard servo like things in the dashes near the firewalls in vehicles when everything is really quiet. I figure it is something computerized and important - so I just let R2D2 do his thing.

Could be normal injector noise. Supposedly the fuel rail makes that same sort of ticking / tapping sound when the injectors are firing. I hear mine when I'm sitting in the drive through lane at McDonald's, but only very faintly. Definitely soft enough that any throttle hides it.

I thought it would be something like that. It definately wasn't any kind of engine/rod type rattle. I can't hear it in the truck even with the windows down I can only hear it when I get out and walk near the front fender with it running.
