Hey everyone,

I just had a question about towing trailers.. Its just a small question.  Is towing 2 trailers legal?  I was driving home friday night from work and i see this guy in this newer F150 and from behind i thought he was pullin a boat so i went to pass him and the boat was attached to a camper.  He had crafted some kind of hitch on the back of a small camper trailier and was pullin both.

Anyway so was the guy legal with what he was doing??

I've seen that myself and often wondered the same thing.  I wonder if it was the same fella.  Saw it a few years ago.

I would imagine that it would be legal since you often see semi-tractor trailers doing the same thing.  Chances are the fella was probably a truck driver on vacation that had the certifications do do something like this.

I think it depends on the state. In California i think you can do up to 3 trailers!! :o

In NH you can only tow one at a time, i believe.

Hey,

All I know is those two trailers were movin around a lot..  Once i passed him you could see one trailer on one side of the lane and the other trailer on the other side of the same lane.  It looked weird and unsafe.. He was drivin really slow..  Almost stupid to take the main 100K speed limit...  He ended up pulling off the road for problems..

Two regular trailers both with single axles would be hard to pull in my opinion.. I find it easier pulling a 48' Flatbed trailer with 5 axles with our tractor trailer over pulling a single axle trailer with a pickup..

Depends on the individual state laws.  Every state sets its own rules on that sort of stuff.  I've seen RVs doing that sort of thing, but not very often.  Many times we pull several farm wagons in a row (two or three) but the cops leave us be even if it is against the law (I don't know if it is or not).

I saw a wierd thing myself.

This F-350 Dually Was towing a Gooseneck (5th wheel) horse trailer, then he had a Flatbed Reg. hitch trailer, with another 5th wheel Horse trailer which was the same lengh attached to it.

This was on Interstate 81 near Staunton (For those who know VA's roads) on Wednesday when I was gone this week.

That is normally how the transport new trailers to their destination.  Most trailers are too long to put over one on a semi trailer, so pulling them like that is the most cost effective way.

There's an old guy that comes to town every summer driving a 28ftish RV, towing his Wagoneer, with a small hobby trailer hooked to that.  I think he sharpens knives or something.  I also often see people with boats hooked to their 5th wheels.  Guess it depends where you are.....
