Increase the compression..

If the Escalade has 10-1 compression ration for the 6.0 what would a 5.3 have if its compression were also increased to 10-1.

the compression ratio could only be changed by changing cylinder heads (to a smaller combustion chamber) or by changing pistons or possibly connecting rods, it would be an expensive project. I think the same power increase or more could be had by easier external modifications.

agreed if u are that "bowed up" about getting some more power look into a supercharger witch esentialy does the same thing by shoving more air past the intake valve  :)

I HAVE A 2000 C1500 W/ 5.3L, I'M MILLING THE HEADS 030, INSTALLING THE LARGER LS1 INTAKE VALVES AND PORTING THE INTAKE & EXHAUST PORTS FOR BETTER FLOW, A LS1 208/496 CAMSHAFT, HEADERS & A 100 HP WET SHOT NOS SYSTEM...I'M WONDERING IF A 6.0L TRUCK INTAKE MANIFOLD FLOWS ANY BETTER THAN THE 5.3L. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY INFO ON THIS....?

The intake is no different than the 5.3. Gm made the engines to match for ease of manufacturing ( and to save money).

Not so, you can also change the compression ratio by by installing thicker or thinner headgaskets.

 

Upping the compression ratio on a daily driven vehicle is stupid as it will require higher octane fuel to keep it from "pinging" and eventually it will be hard to keep streetable.

 

If you guys want more power you start with exhaust mods, not just a stupid cat back that everyone suggests, you do it right by installing a set of headers which are easily available with 02 bungs and then you match the exhaust.

 

Then you can think about other avenues and what you will use the truck for. you dont need a 700 hp truck for daily driving, that is just stupid. hell you dont even need a 600 hp truck for daily driving. All you want it for is to show off how big a guy you are while blowing your money down the toilet with no real use for it.

 

if you want a streetable truck with power that you can use all you need is the full exhaust, a cam swap to utilize the extra available power, intake swap if you want. Or just a tune after the exhaust. You could also install a bigger set of injectors as well. But you have to realize that for every peice of performance product you put on your vehicle. your vehicle's reliablility just went down a notch. Not saying that aftermarket speed parts are not good. Just that the factory parts that work with the now aftermarket parts were not designed to be used that way. Also fuel consumption goes up as well.

 

If your gonna do it, do it right and you wont be doing it a second or third time down the road because it did not give you the results you wanted, so if you do it right and it is still not where you wanted it, you dont have to redo the part you already bought, take a hit of money again, and still not be happy with i. this way you can build on what you have without taking 2 steps backwards.
