quickmedic1,

Who did your install? I see you live in the same area I do (Pittsburgh) and I've been thinking of getting one but have no idea where to go.

Here is a link for Wabasto sunroofs installers in Pa. I used Jeff at Executive motors in Gibsonia, Pa. I recommend him highly. Also here is the posts on sunroofs I did during the install on Silveradoss.com

I do have some advise for anyone considering a sunroof install. To put a inside retracting sunroof in a ext cab you have to remove the roof braces. It is not a big deal since they don't attach directly to the roof panel itself. But your roof will be very flimsy ,even more so than now, behind the sunroof. I had the shop bond a 3/16 plate 3/4 inch wide across the roof . They bonded it to the roof panel itself. No more flimsy roof at all. Period.

I can get wholesale price on a webasco for $850. I can get a spoiler type one for $750. If they did not have to remove the roof support for the spoiler one I would lean in that direction.

Are these prices including install? If not what does that cost? I would love to do this in my truck, but don't want to spend thousands. If it is 1000 installed that might not be so bad.... :ughdance:

Good idea about adding that extra brace as the roof on the ext cabs is kinda flimsy even before cutting a hole in it. Did you lose your rear dome light when they did it?

The sunroof assy is a large pan. When they cut out the braces the pan with all the sunroof parts gets glues to the roof where they cut out the hole. The front section of the roof will be very sturdy now but the section behind the rood will be just the way it always was. That is where the extra brace or two works well. It really strengthens the roof panel. I did keep all the interior lights including the center one. If you install a spoiler roof you may not have to cut the cross brace but the front one will have to go. My overall feeling on cutting the braces was this...There is not enough braceing to protect you in an accident. Much of the support is from the outer perimeter of the roof. The cross brace may have helped but the sunroof assy now does that job being bonded to the roof.

That is good you still keep all the interior lights. I have the ext cab lights on my HD so not sure if/how that may affect it.

Did the extra bracing come with the kit or did you (them) have to fabricate it?
