Switching to 4X4 mode ?

Ok I wouldn't be asking so many questions, but our truck didn't come with an owners manual :)

Is there anything special we need to do when switching to the 4X4 mode?  We tested it out on the street one day & I noticed that after you pushed the button, the light blinks a couple of times then stayes solid.  Do you have to wait until the light stops blinking before you drive off?  Why does it do this?

Sure makes it alot easier than having to get out and unlock your hubs everytime :)

To run your truck in AutoTrac or 4 HI just push the button.  You can engage these features while running down the road at speed...

The light blinks as the system engages.  Once the light stops blinking you are now in 4WD.

For 4LO you will need to be stopped to engage it.

Ummm guys, the truck listed in the signature is not going to have autotrac.  Kind of important as I wouldn't want them to think they can go around driving in 4wd like you guys with the 99+ trucks can do.  All this truck will have is the push-button transfer case, which the operation of has already been described.

Ok, what's AutoTrac? Even thought I don't have it....I would like to know what it is...

Thanks :)

auto trac automatically senses tire slippage and puts the truck into 4hi.  Sort of idiot proofs using 4wd.  I've got the floor shifter in my truck.  I like to have full control of going in and out of 4wd in my truck.

You did the same thing I did on my 95 Blazer.  I specified the floor mounted shifter.

Autotrac = auto all wheel drive.

sarah, i like autotrac. basically the truck has an auto button along with 4*4 hi,lo and 2hi. in the manual damage can be done by just driving in 4*4 hi on wet or dry roads. in auto all four wheels are engaged, but power is being sent to rear wheels only, until the veh senses road trouble, in a split second the veh is able to send power to the front wheels just enough to where you dont even feel the power adjustment. auto is best used in conditions that are unpredictable. another good thing is that it can be pushed "on the fly" so you dont have to stop or slow down to activate it. also, 4*4 isnt really needed. you almost cant tell the difference between auto and 4*4. by being in auto, i get better gas mileage than 4*4 hi. also, go to the place you bought your truck, the dealer should be able to get you a manual for free.
