Cruise control problem

I took my 2500HD DMax to Indiana last week pulling a light load trailer. On the way back yesterday the trailer was empty. I pulled into a rest area. When I left the cruise control would not engage no matter what I did. I pulled into the next rest area, shut it down and check the fuses (all okay). When I pulled back onto the interstate the cruise worked perfectly. Anyone experience anything similar? Any causes?

It's a long shot, but maybe your trailer lights or brakes were feeding back into the brake system, causing it to think the brake pedal was actuated? This might happen with a bad ground through the hitch ball.
