Ramjet 502 swap for '90 454ss...direct swap?

Recommended Posts

A friend has asked me to look into swapping out his 1990 454ss engine for a ramjet 502. In research, I havent been able to find much on these trucks, but I believe that they use TBI and the '90 model does not have a pcm controlled transmission.

Would this pretty much be a direct swap other than upgrading the fuel pump? Would the transmission be able to handle the additional power?

Thanks,

Dave

yep same deminsions. The trans may hold until he got traction. The ramjet does have over 500hp. You would need headers of course and upgrade the fuel system.

No go on the direct swap. The Ram Jet is port injected and the SS is a TBI set up. It is doable though without too much headache involved. If the SS has the 3 speed turbo 400 trans then no computer controller is needed. If it has a 4 speed 4L80 trans than he will need a computer to control the trans. He also should check the measurements to see if the Ram Jet will fit under the hood.

Either trans will handle the power no problem.

GM does make some long block 502 engines that might be better suited to the swap.
