What are some good cams for the 5.3's

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but if you have an '01, all of the "old-school" stuff you'd do with a cam is now controlled by the computer. You'd probably be better off looking into a new chip rather than a new cam. Besides, it's a lot less work! :chevy:

So your tellin me if i put a hp cam in there its not gunna do anything? And just to let you know I already have a westers. Check out performancetruck.net and see all the stuff you can do with these "new" trucks. The motors haven't changed, just the computers that control them.

You can put a cam in and not have to tune anything. You just cannot go to big or you will run into drivebility and or idle issues. I put a 212/218 .522/.529 in my 5.3 and didnt tune a thing. Ran just fine. But to maximize the gains it is best to get a tune done by a reputable shop.

Go ahead with the cam and get a retune (for free, shipping only) from Westers. Just tell Lyndon everything you've done and he'll take care of you.

Intake and exhaust, thats it. But when I did the cam I put in an new oil pump, pushrods, LS6 springs and new valve seals. It made good power down low and pulled pretty nice up top. It really started to pull at about 3200-3500rpm's.
