Engine Problem

Hey guys I have a 2004 trailblazer that is my wifes car. She has been telling me that when she is driving it at a normal constant speed like 45 mph the engine will start to slug and run rough. I did not belive her but yesterday we were driving and shure enough I was going 50 mph and the engine just didnt want to go. The rpms droped to around 500 or so and it just keep going slower and slower. I just layed into the gas and I felt it drop gears and really pick up speed. Didnt do it again for the rest of the day. Would like to fix it before I try to take it to the dealer ship and they take my money and tell me nothing. Has anyone had this problem before or know what is going on here.

Has the fuel filter been changed recently? Also, run some Techtron fuel injector cleaner thru the gas tank.
