I ordered the cover panel for my non ext cab '99 overhead console and it looks like it will fit but first I have to remove the bezel that is currently there.  How , do I go about doing this without destroying anything ?  I've only spent 5minutes try to pry out the bezel but was'nt sure exactly where I should be prying or do I have to take off the whole console ?

When I'm in doubt this is where I come .  TIA.

You should be able to remove the console.  If it's like my long overhead console, there is only 1 screw holding it up in the front.  The back on the long ones are held in by two big clip thingy's.  The whole thing slides forward once the front screw is removed.  If you can get your down, you may want to look at the piece your talking about removing from the inside of the overhead console.  You may see how to remove it there.  I'm not exactly sure what part your talking about since mine has the long console and I havn't really paid much attention to the short ones.

Sorry, hope this helps a little bit.

Post a pic, if you can.  Maybe that can help by giving a visual reference.

Finally a response!

Thanks a bunch I was guessing I had to take the whole thing down but wanted to wait to hear from some one like you. Gonna try tommorow after school I'll let you know how it turns out. Thanks a bunch  Tom !!

Yeah, just take the console down and you'll be able to see it from the inside. The panel is held in place with plastic clips at each corner.

Ok I got the console down (that was too easy now feel pretty dumb) but once I got a look at how the bezel thingy is attached to the console I'm stumped again.  Here's what I found, the bezel whatever thingy is attached to the console in 3or 4 spots which look like plastic spot welds, I'm guessing that I could carefully drill these out and remove the bezel but although I'm fairly certain that the cover plate will fit I'm worried that if it doesn't fit and I need to put the bezel back in, I'll have no way to refasten it.  Does anyone know what the deal is with this ?  I could put it back in and crazy glue or hot glue it back. ???

I would imagine you could use some silicone sealant to hold it in.  Maybe a hot glue gun with some quality glue sticks.

Have you gotten te cover plate yet?  If not, you may want to wait til you get it.  You may be able to just look at it and tell if it will fit.

Hey Al

If you have to re-glue these pieces together, I would recommend trying to find a product called Zap-a-gap.  Most good hobby stores should have it, and there are a variety of formulations available, thick, thin, plastic, and then thier is a kicker to set the glue instantaneously.  We use this all of the time in the film industry, and the stuff is REALLY good.

If you can't find it in Edmonchuck, let me know and I'll see if I can send some from 'couver fer ya.

Thanks Scott I think I'm going to play chicken for now (at least until this weekend ) and leave things as they are for now.

Wait, I'm confused. I thought you just bought the cover panel that covers up the area that is normally rear ac controls for the SUV's, right?

Not sure about the rear air controls on suv MIne has a short OH console that has map storage ? map lights and thats it. The hole I'm trying to cover looks just like what was posted in "what to do with the blank" post.
