thinking about getting a used, maybe '03 dmax. i was wondering whats a good asking price for my truck. i know there's nada and kelly, but the market is always different. i was thinking around $30,000. its an '03 GMC sierra, slt, crew cab, black, 6 1/2 bed, 8.1-ally, 28K, great condition, it would include, prodigy brake controller, fiver hitch, nerf bars, tonneau, bed liner, cb radio? does $30K sound like a place to start?

Where are you located?

Sure sounds like a nice truck... I know this is a stupid question, but what are you seeing for mileage unloaded around town? Trying to compare it to my 99.... if its anywhere close (mileage wise, and distance wise) I may consider

Sounds like a good place to start, although prices have come down a bit. My bro-inlaw bought a '03 chev 1500HD with leather, dvd, and about the same mileage. He payed around 27K. I thought it was a little high, but he liked the truck. According to that, with low mileage you should get close to 30K I would guess.

BIGG.................Selling that truck already ?

Why ???? MPGs ??????

Checking GM buypower a new 05 Crew 4x4 8.1 can be had for $32xxx.

Dealers gonna lowball ya on the trade.

Hate to say $30xxx for your truck is gonna be impossible to get

on a trade in..................

Go over to http://www.edmunds.com

to the forums to the Smart

Shopper thread to the Real World trade in values.

A car guy named Terry will give ya the trade or retail

price on any used vehicle.

He pegged my 01 dead on when I traded for my 04............geo

Trading a truck to a dealer is always a good way to get $4k or 5K less for it than its worth .

After looking around lately, I would also have to say under 30K. Right now at the dealership I could get a '05 Dmax CC for about 34K. They are just giving them away lately. :chevy:

gas is killing me. it wasnt so bad when i bought the truck but who knew gas was going to rise so fast! dont get me wrong i knew gas one day would be $2.50+ per gal but wow! i seem to average 9-10mpg no matter what i do. but looking at diesels i see the prices have risen a few grand on trucks since 2003 for the same truck. so i dont know what im going to do. we start building a house in a couple weeks so i wont be able to make a switch in trucks until the house is complete. i suppose i'll count my pennies and decide then.

BIGG...........My car bud sez $21,xxx is what your looking at

for trade on a new one. A few more $$ if your looking at

used.

Used diesels fetch BIG money but not worth the hassle

after the warranty runs out. But you still get hosed at trade

time with themtoo...................

I see to many stories of woe on the snowplow sites about

ALL them diesels !

Heck....How much better MPG are ya gonna get out a diesel?

Have you considered a tuner or a PCM mod?

I got a Hypertech 3 tuner and went from 17 to 21 mpg hiway.

Went 13 to 15 city driving EASY ! Towing or plowing about

9-10........Cost $329 bucks

More giddy-up too !

BTW....I bought a old Escort rat mobile for running around

with. REAL good mpg........... 25 plus ! Its a POS but $2.50

a gallon ! And I GOTTA have a truck anyhoo...................

Ever considered getting a spare econo car?..................geo

For what it's worth now...My .02. :banghead:

That truck probably wouldn't fetch more than 22-23k around here, if you were very lucky...but everybody around here has a truck, so the market is super-saturated with them. There are a bazillion of them in the trader. Definately a buyers market on gas hogs these days.

If I drove more than 5 miles to work, I'd be pimpin an oil burner in a heartbeat.

Where do you guys live? Is is that depressed? BIG PUNN you could easily get $30,000 out of that truck here, without a doubt. I would wait until after the "Employee Discount" is over (Aug 1) though. Those are the best dealer incentives we have ever heard of, so it is hurting the private sellar market right now. My uncle just bought an 05 DMax three days ago. He sold his old truck for $19,000. The truck was a 99 GMC 1500 SLT ext cab with 45K on it. It has a 3" lift and custom wheels and tires. It was in the classified adds for two days. He is kicking himself because he did not ask 20 or 21 grand for it. Pretty good investment if you ask me. He paid it off three years ago, spent 3 grand for lift, wheels and tires, turns around and makes 16 thousand dollars off of it. If I was to sell my truck right now (see sig 38K miles) I would not take less than 34 grand and I would not even have to advertise. I have 4 or 5 co-workers who'd give me the cash today.

Check kelly blue book .......Retail only $25,700.......Trade $21xxx

on Big puns truck..............

Heck, In today paper a 03 1/2 ton z-71 x-cab 4x4 16k miles at a dealer is only $19,495.

Your uncle sold a 99 for that? YEOW !!!!!

I'm in NY where are you ?

My truck is set-up similar to your's.

'03, SLE, 4x4 Crew, 6' box, 6.0 L. 32K

Lots of Factory options including Westin Nerf bars, but no SLT leather.

I paid under 24K and it was super clean.

I think waiting after the incentives are over is your best option. The guy that bought my truck paid over 34K in 03. I figure he got 20k on his trade for a new 05.

The kelly blue book does not lie! The economy here (UT) must be alot higher, I guess. Try booking Big Punn's truck with my Zip Code, it is a heck-of-alot higher than yours. After the $18,225, my uncle added on $800 for the lift and walla, ~$19000. Like I said, sold in two days, no lie. I guess, if I was going to buy used, I would drive East.

sonjaab,

Booked Big Punn's truck @84078

As it came from factory (no additional options)

28K miles

Retail price: $30,455.

Private party sale is a little cheaper though. It has to be demographics. Trucks are abundant here, but still a hot comodity. A used DMax Crew Cab is almost impossible to get ahold of, because there is more demand than supply. Dealers, new and used, get what they want. They will not even budge a couple hundred bucks. In my town more people drive trucks, than cars. It seems like anyways.

Remember .........Biggs truck is a 8.1.............

4x4 Truck prices around my parts are weak in the summer

HOT as heck in the winter !

Who knows.............The dealer has to pick yer pocket somehow

to stay in business. They sure as heck ain't making any $$ on

this GM employee pricing. But they ARE moving iron !

I stopped at a local Chevy dealer to take a peek at the HHR.

All they had was 12 1/2 ton trucks. NO 3/4 or 1 tons...........
