Shake, rattle & roll

Question, I have a 2000 xcab Z71 that shakes and bouces like ####. The truck has the original tires, and is completly stock, as far as the supension goes. I always  a "bounce" at about 35-45mph and usually a bad shake after 65mph.Sometimes it shakes so bad I think the passager seat is going to shake loose.  Does anyone else experence this with their new Silverado? I have read some bad stories about people with the same model truck and the same problem. I plan to take the truck to GM next week to try and get this problem resolved.

I'd say you have an out of round tire or a tire out of balance or possibly a broken belt in a tire.  Your truck shouldn't be doing that.

It is also possible that there could be a bad disc on one of the wheels.  Not probable but I have seen it when a balance problem turns out to be a disc brake.

Take it to the dealer and take the tech for a ride with you so he knows exactly what is happening and I'm sure they'll take care of the problem.

By no means is this considered to be normal and in my book it is borderline dangerous (my opinion).

Don't think it's a tire problem, it was still happening even after I got my tires rotated and balanced, could be a disk. I have also heard a thousand other things that could cause it, brake booster draging, shocks, ....hope GM can figure it out.

Let's put our heads together and help Smitty out...  He deserves some good ideas rather than the dribble he is getting at some other sight that is known for a few good responses along with extra "dribble".

Well, I got my truck back this afternoon from Chevy, the ride does seem better but it's too early to really tell, I haven't driven it enough. They re-balanced the tires on this new high tech balacing machine, forgot what they called it, but it cost about ? bucks to have it done. They said this was the only way to tell if a tires was"out of round" it worked because they did find the right rear was screwed up and replaced it with my spare. They are going to order a new tire free of charge. They also said this is what was causing the bad aligment, the truck was pulling to the right. That does seemed to be fixed now with the new tire.

I hope everything works out for you Smitty...  At least it sounds like they are trying to help!  One question, did you have to pay ??  If so I think that is wrong... IMO

Yes I have to pay the ? for them to balance the tires on this special machine, however, I don't have to pay anything to get the tire replaced. They had to do this to find out if a tire was "out of round" and they did find the right rear was.

I'm glad things are OK now.  Maybe you can start loving your truck again...

I've driven and ridden in all of the Big Threes trucks and they all seem to have their own little quirks.  IMO the GM trucks are far better than the underpowered Fords and the out-dated Dodges.

My '97 Ford was a nice truck but it suffered from lack of HP and I had the dreaded door cracks.  I also didn't like the non-functional gauges.  The Dodges were really cool when they first came out but they haven't figured out how to keep an auto tranny behind them... and I'm not real hyped up about the new-style yet, although I haven't seen one in person.

I'm not trying to talk the other brands down, because GM has some issues too, but all in all I think you have a mighty fine truck!!!

Enjoy...

illmac77 ,

I read all the bad story's, that what really started to scare me. Some of those guys have real problems. I'm also not 100% sure mine is fixed, it does seems better overall, but it seems to still bounce a little at 40-45mph.
