"Rattleing Noise"

Does any one else have a rattleing noise at idle with the 6.0? It kind of sounds like a diesel. I have good oil pressure, am using synthetic oil, change every 3,000 miles. This was present before any mods were made. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Most likely it is normal. The noise you hear is probably the injectors, but keep in mind that with the aluminum heads, that there can be some valve noise transmitted too...

I have some noise but the dealer said it was normal. Surprising, isn't it.

I have a 02 and it also has whats called piston slap. It's very common in the 6.0. I was also told that it was normal. But I didn't like that answer so I called GM them selves and they said that thereis nothing wrong with the engine. Yes they know about the noise thing and that it's not hurting the engine at all as long as you have good oil pressure. But to get me to stop bekering and to close mu case file the gave me a 7yr and 100,000 ml warrenty only on the engine. I also use synthetic oil and change it every 3,000 miles. No problems.

You have piston slap on cold start up. Should go away after a few min. You also have lifter bleed down -alot after hot shut down then restart. They rattle like a bunch of little ball bearings. kind of sounds like solid lifter noise It is disconserting but it doesn't affect the performance of the engine. Just something you live with.
