1992 to 1994+ grille update kit

I have a 1992 Chevy 1/2 ton. I bought a 1994 - 1998 grille update kit from US Auto Parts and began to install it yesterday. I ran into several problems. If anyone is experienced in doing this update, any answers or comments to my questions below would be appreciated.

1. Bumper brackets. The kit came with the center bumper brackets only. I know that the newer grille assembly sits out a little further from the radiator support, so the bumper needs to sit out further, too. I could not get the bumper to align side to side using both the new center brackets and the existing side brackets. It seems like the bumper is too close to the body on the edges when it's bolted to the existing side brackets. Are you supposed to ignore the side brackets with this kit, and rely on the center brackets only for bumper support? If not, why didn't the side brackets come with it? Is there a difference between the side brackets for a 1992 vx a 1994+ model? Should I got to the local GM dealer and order the side brackets?

2. Lower grille/bumper filler. This piece runs across the width of the grille, directly between the bumper and the grille. It's a little wider that the 1992 style, and attaches to the bottom of the new grille differently from the older style. It also attaches to the radiator support, but looks like it needs to be modifed slightly to work correctly, and maybe even the core support needs modification. Any advice on this?

Any help would be appreciated. This job has so far turned out to be much more time consuming than I expected.
