No Onstar w/o Leather?

In looking at the GMC brochure, I noticed to get Onstar, you need the SLE package. But, with the SLE, you cannot get cloth upholstry.  So, no leather, no Onstar?

you get get onstar on any 99-2002 silverado, to get it from the factory the truck may need to have the upgrade.

When you say you need to have the upgrade--the upgrade being the SLE with leather seats, or what? And, if you don't get it from the factory, are you saying you get some kind of "authorized Onstar dealer" to install the system after you buy the truck?

TXDOC, to get OnStar, you need the leather package.  The leather package is optional in the SLE and standard in the SLT.  I know because the leather/OnStar option is the only thing my SLE is missing....

Okay. I appreciate the replies. I did want Onstar, but not leather seats. Maybe the '03's will make that happen.

In the Canadian brochures Onstar is only listed with LT or SLT models.

I never understood why auto mfrs do this.  Why leather for Onstar?  I know it's the "luxury" concept, but still...  Options should be a la carte.

 

The worst was in the 1997-1998 Nissan 240SX where to get ABS and the limited-slip differential, you had to get leather!
