My new work truck

I finally got out of the blasted cramped small 2003 S-10 and into a 2001 GMC Sierra Standard cab, short bed with the 4.8. THe truck itself is in good condition with 76,000 miles on it, no 4WD but that 4.8 does just fine, it revs a little more but it does just fine none the less. Problems: typical fuel gage issue, and at 76,000 miles too. How sad. no other issues besides that. One thing I did notice though, it has a 32 gal fuel tank or something like that where as my 99 Z71 has a 21 or 22 gal fuel tank? Cost $75.00 to fill up today! (thankfully its a company truck) Also there is what one would think a center arm rest but its not relaly one its bolted up, it doesn't fold down :seeya:

I work in the broadband industry so I haul around various types of equipment, anything from phone line, to Satellite recievers, alot of tools, and such.

**update**

Had a chance to take her out on the highway today, that 4.8 isn't as good as I thought it was, it really struggles to hold 65+ mph when going up a SLIGHT inclimb, shifting in and out of overdrive frequently. Not good. At least on my 5.3 Silverado it'll shift down get up to speed really qickly and then shift back into overdrive. I am not very thrilled about how these trucks struggle and can't hold the speed going up SLIGHT inclimbs without having to shift down into drive, I never had that issue with the previous trucks I drove.

The newer trucks drop out of overdrive quickly because gm had issues with the transmission burning up, and when they hung on to overdrive longer, they simply cooked.... I say better to drop out of overdrive than loose the transmission. My father cooked 4 transmissions in his 97 (he towed a 6000+ lbs. trailer) and a two friends of mine lost theirs and never towed with them. Both were from the same mid 90's range.

I agree with that...and that's why more trucks than ever have the trailer/haul button on the shift.

I have a 4.8L tahoe and thought the same thing about shifting in and out of OD and talked to a tech....

It is exactly the way you state, it will save your tranny from cooking the fluid, applies the same torque to the rear wheels and keeps your hauling speed the same.....
