inch lbs to foot lbs?

I need to torque a couple things to 156 in lbs and 97 in lbs.

 

Am I correct at dividing 156 by 12 and getting 13 ft lbs?

And 97 by 12 and getting 8.083...... ft lb?

 

I always forget the correct way to calculate that.

I was always taught to divide by 16. I have been known to be wrong on things once in a while, thanks for the info.

By the way, it's for the transmission drain plug and pan bolts. My Haynes manual had the measurements in innc lbs, but I don't have an inch lbs torque wrench that covered that went that high.

Since its for the drain plug and pan bolts, just do it by hand.

 

3/8" drive on the drain plug, 1/4" drive on the pan bolts.

I believe that is the case when converting from ounces to lbs. But I am a young canadian that was raised on the metric system so I may be wrong.

Not sure about inch pounds on the drain plug. I would go for mile pounds - That would be close to as tight as it was from the factory. Your lucky if you can get it loose without ruining the plug.

Type "foot pounds in inch pounds" and see the results.

 

You may also enter the number of foot pounds to receive an exact answer as in the following example:

 

Enter into Google: 85 foot pounds in inch pounds

Result back from Google: 85 foot pounds = 1 020 inch pound force

 

This works for all sorts of conversions, standard to metric, Fahrenheit to Celsius, etc.
