Snow Plow Prep Package

Recommended Posts

From GM Techlink

Roof Beacon Switch Indicator A 2003-05 Chevrolet or GMC Full Size Truck equipped with VYU option (Snow Plow Provision Package) may not have the roof beacon light connected. If the customer inadvertently presses the roof beacon switch to the ON position, the roof beacon indicator will illuminate on the switch.

If the ignition is turned off and the beacon switch is left on, a battery draw (140 Ma) will occur, evantually causing battery discharge.

The roof beacon switch indicator will not illuminate when the key is turned off. However, the roof beacon relay is still energized. It's suggested that the roof beacon switch be turned off before turning the ignition off to avoid a battery drain.

TIP: If the roof beacon is not being used, pull the SEO B1 fuse to disable the relay. This can be done on all vehicles with VYU option except vehicles equipped with option 8S8 (Speedometer Security) or have an overhead universal garage door opener.

I can't tell you how many trucks we've seen in here with dead batteries because someone turned on that switch and didn't turn it off!!! (And most of the time they didn't know they turned it on  )

One of our forum colleagues described for me where I'd find mine. I had to drop the headliner of course. This pdf would have helped me a lot. Well now I have it, thanks to you.

MIKE...............I just pulled the head liner down on the side

near the read door striker and fished mine out.

I put a male/female end on the truck wires and the other on

my magnetic beacon light. Then just lead the wire out the door

jamb when needed.

You can pull off the plastic piece off the left corner of the B pillar

also and pull the wires down. Thats where the relay is located

also. The wires run from bottom to top up the B pillar.

Another easy way to get the wires without removing the whole

headliner (PIA) is to drop the overhead console/light assembly.

2? torx/screws....................

The heavy brown and black beacon wires will be right there !!!

My leads were taped up to the roof with a huge piece of masking tape somewhere right above where my head is when I'm driving. I had to drop the headliner about 3" to be able to get my arm up there to un peel the tape.

But that was this spring, it's been all hooked up and working since then. I went right through the roof. Permanent install.

Bolted the light bar through the roof, and into the stiffener beam that crosses my extended cab by the dome light.
