Do firestone tires suck?

Recommended Posts

I got a flat yesterday, And i have the original firestone tires, the bad thing is the hole did not go through the thin part of the tire but it went through the thick part of the tread and the tire was flat as a pancake. Just wondering if you guys think firestone tires suck.

Do they suck?  Well i dumped mine at 10K and i can say it made a world of difference.  Better traction handling etc.

Also the fstone threw rocks like made.  The bfg's do it much less.

What caused the flat?

Is the tire ruined?

yeah they suck IMO.  i got a flat a week ago with a nail through the thick part of the tread. it wasnt even a big nail and it was broken in half also, not even very sharp.  it was easy to fix with a tire plug though.  also they suck in the mud, clog up almost instantly in the thick stuff.  i hope the bfg AT's will perform better.

Yes...Firestone's suck majorly.  On Labor Day we were rushing between get togethers and we took a backroad to get to the lake and a piece of gravel gave us a BIG hole...we ended up getting new tires all around and got 285's this time...it makes a world of difference in the handling and looks!

I'm sorry I don't have alot of experience with truck tires, but IMHO Firestones are good.  I feel that any tire you had on your truck would have taken the nail the same way.  Now if you want to go after the Ford Explorer/Firestone fiasco go ahead but blame should fall on Ford and driver overcorrection.  If I remember right, the blowouts happened mostly on the rear driverside tire.  That doesn't seem to be a tire fault.  I see it as an engineering oversite.  I bet if you put the "best" tire in its place, the same thing would happen.

Yes.  Two of my stock (one front and one back) would not hold air.  They leaked slowly ever since I bought the truck new.   Something else that bugged me was the way they squealed when I made a sharp turn-even at a slow speed you could hear the back tires squeal.

Bought new BFGs 265 ATKOs at 12000 miles and like them alot better.  No more tire squalling and air pumping every 7  days.  They are a little louder but they look alot better than the oversized car tire Firestones (IMO).  May be my imagination but I swear the BFG tires corner better also.

I have 27,000 miles on my Firestone Wilderness ATs without a problem. I have towed my travel trailer in 100+ degree temperatures. They are wearing well, have a great ride and no vibrations or shakes. I have no complaints thus far.

oh yea mine wore bad also.  i took it to 2 tire shops (1 fstone) and they looked them over and said pressure was fine they didnt know why they were wearing like they were

I haven't heard too much good spoken about vehicle tires.  I've never had any, so I don't know for sure.  In terms of heavy equipment tires though, Firestone can't be beat.   :D

Well, I have actually had good luck with the Firestone Steeltex tires.  But these weren't the GM factory tires either.  They are a set of LT265/75R16 load range E tires (one of the few in this size and load range) that came on a Ford SD F350.  They lasted about 30k miles of heavy duty towing, gravel roads, and general farm work.  They were replaced with a set of BFG All-Terrains in the exact same size.  Compared to the Firestones, those BFG's were total POS tires.  They simply could not handle the heavy weight and always being driven on gravel roads.  Worst tires I've ever seen on a pickup, maybe he got a bad set, but they were friggen horrible.  Switched back to Firestones after 10k miles, and said never again BFG....
