I run Pennzoil 10W30 conventional. Since I change the oil every 3k miles, synthetic doesn't really buy you anything. Synthetic really shines from 3k to 10k, but I just can't see running that long between oil changes.

Besides that, my dad has run Pennzoil in his Peterbuilt for decades now. When they overhauled the engine with 1.2 million miles, all of the internal parts and chambers were perfect with no wear. I've got 200k on my 94, no overhaul, no oil consumption, and have run conventional the whole time.

Guess we've just stuck to what's worked for us.

I run Mobil1 also in my '04 Silverado,But have run nothing but conventional 5W-30 Pennzoil in my '88 Corsica with almost 230,000 miles on it (My dad bought it new so I know thats all its ever had) So that just goes to show that you don't need sythentic oil for an engine to last a long time (My dad still can't believe its got this many miles on it,and its never had the oil pan, intake or valve covers off!)

I run Castrol GTX conventional oil, it's on the list of GM recommended list GF-4 oil. for my 04 Tahoe 4.8L.

There is no need to run synthetic oil on this motor as it has roller friction points for lifters, no distributor gear etc.

Run with the GM Oil Life Monitor with a good GF-4 oil and you'll be fine.
