New Member with Starting Question

I am a new member here, I just bought a 2000 Suburban LS.  I really like the Suburban and wish my other truck were this new style. I like this site, people seem real helpful.

I have a small problem right now.  Ocassionally when I start the 'burban it seems like an electrical problem or something, but it acts like it is going to die.  I have to give it a little gas to get the RPM's up and running.  This will get a small puff of smoke out the tailpipe.  This only  usually happens after sitting over night.  After that first start no problems and it does not always happen on the first start-up. Is this a known problem? Is there a TSB on it?  Can anyone help?

Sorry for the long post and thanks in advance for the help.

First off, welcome to the forum.  I think there was a TSB about changing the PCV valve that would cure those problems.  I have a similar problem, aside from the puff of smoke.  My truck will stall when I start it after it's been sitting for a long time.  the lights will dim and the engine will bog down.

I haven't done anything about it.  I just let the truck idle for a few seconds.  Usually it's when I'm pulling my truck in the garage for the night so I run outside and jump in and go.  The engine doen't get a chance to really move yet.  I think it's got to due w/ temp changes as well since it only does it if the truck is sitting outside.

The PCV TSB may be more related to the puff of smoke.  Is your burb consuming any oil?

My Suburban is always garaged, so I do not know if the temps have a lot to do with it.  It is a good possibility I will have to look into.  There is 0 oil consumption.  I even drove from Oregon to California towing another vehicle when I first got it and used no oil.  The puff of smoke is more black like an overly rich condition.

Thanks for the welcomes.  I look forward to talking with you guys.

When I read your first post it sounded like it was flooded to me. I'm not a mechanic, but I'm sure there will be some on here later. Back to the Top!

I agree it sounds flooded.  What I want to know is why.  The whole electrical system bogs down.  Lights dim, motor stumbles and then it comes to life.  When it comes up the small puff of smoke. I am wondering if it is not firing so it is rich or if it is rich and can not fire.  It seems to be electrical causing the symptoms.  I am not sure, but I am looking forward to figuring it out. :D
