ordering a truck

I didn't really know where to post this so since I might order a 2500 I thought I would post it here. I wanted to see if anyone has any experince ordering a truck. I want to order a DMax work truck with a regular cab - something dealers don't stock around here. Is it easier to get a better deal ordering a truck and how does the payment work? Is it so much down when the order is placed or do you pay in full up front?

Thanks,

Hi there,

I'm in the same boat...except I'm going to order the 2006 2500HD 4X4, 8.1 liter, Allison trans, Regular cab. Dealers in my state (AZ) used to have these on the lot but now that gas prices are up no one thinks they can unload the big block.

I'm going to pay cash for mine but they won't lock in a price until the truck arrives...or at least the two dealers I talked to so far won't. They say whatever deal is on the books at the time of delivery will set the price (employee discount, cash back bonus).

Does anyone know how I can search for truck w/the 8.1 liter engine? GMbuypower only gives me a list within a few states around Arizona.

I always order a truck. That way I get just what I want.

I determine and lock in the price and leave a $500 deposit. Incentives cannot be locked in. Rebates, etc are determined at the time of delivery and deducted from you already negotiated price.

You can get a better deal by ordering. The dealer will still get his hold back but will not have to sell or store the truck. Plus you only pay for the options you want. No need pay for ones you don't want like you do when you buy off the lot.

I never deal with the sales people. I go to either the internet sales rep or the fleet sales rep. I determine what options I want and my price by using edmunds.com. I have never (5 trucks now) paid more than $200 over the dealer invoice. Last truck I got under invoice.

I agree. Ordered my last truck. It is the only way to go. Basically built it on-line, then faxed to my dealer (this was my fourth truck through him since 99, so he treats me well...and he's the owner of the dealership). It was an easy deal for him...no haggling, no spending tons of time with me at dealership. Just a few phone calls and it's good to go.

Didn't even put money down. Just showed up on delivery day and he had it all ready to roll (I think I did the paperwork before hand, remember showing up and him handing me the keys...and I drove off).
