4.3L v6....fast?

Recommended Posts

My 99 Silverado has the 4.3L V6 with 3:08's...thats right...3:08s...and this thing is FAST...it almost feels like i have 3:73's in the rear end...

Could my truck have been tampered with electronically? Or is that setup (if anyone has it) fast? It doesnt seem like it would be.

I've used many adjectives to describe my Truck, fast never was one.

The 4.3 in use now, has been the same since 96, when the HP was upped to 200, I really don't think that motor has much more to give. It pulls great up to about 2500 RPM, but the shows over then. I briefly toyed with trading it last year, and the guy appraising the truck said I lost a little because I only had the 4.8 V-8. This is after he drove and looked at it.

Just enjoy the good gas mileage you are getting with the 3:08's. I bet you see close to 20 even around town.

When im going 55....my engine rides at a nice 1300-1500 RPM. My dad's (same setup) GMC Sierra Longbed with 3:73's hovers allmost near the 1800-2000 range sometimes.

I used to have an '03 with the 4.3 and 3.42 axle. It was decent and had a lot of low end torque for its size, but it did tend to slow down over 2500 RPMs. It was still willing to rev, though.

I have a 2004 truck here at work with the 4.3 and I think it is a big TURD. Then again I'm used to the 5.3 and 5.7 and there is no comparison. Especially saying it's fast.
