Trailering with 5.3 DOD Engine ?

Group,

Now that the 2006 Trailblazer has the 5.3 in a non-EXT chassis, I'm getting interested in replacing my 96 'Hoe (2 Dr, 4WD, 5.7).

My question: I see the 5.3 has displacement on demand to squeeze out a few extra MPG (not sure how much this really helps in the real world). How does the DOD system work for towing ?

Anyone out there with a DOD engine towing loads of about 5000 lbs ? How's it working ?

Thanks,

Rich

It's going to be interesting to see how these DOD engines work in the real world. I see the option cost is 1000$. It seems that with the price of gas at 3$ per gallon, that a 8 - 10 % increase in mpg starts looking good. Any owners out there with this engine, keep us posted on how it works out for you.

There is no 'trailering' button or switch, so I imagine the DOD remains inactive during towing with the increases load.

Our 5.3L DOD got 20.5mpg on a recent trip, not bad considering it's not yet broken in. It gets around 18mpg with my wife using it as a commuter.
