Weird AC Popping/Clicking Noise

Recommended Posts

Every once in a while I get a clicking/popping noise from the AC Duct Work area just below the left side 12 Volt port (the one with the black flip cover) on the center dash stack. The noise is coming from something electrical as I can make it stop & start with out the engine running with the position of the ignition switch. It sounds like a small electric motor running against resistance and clicking against some plastic gears.

Anyone have a clue on this?

Thanks.

My guess is the heat control accuator...

I started experiencing the exact same problem on my '04 Silverado about a month ago. The popping/clicking noise occured with the engine running or if I just turned the ignition switch slightly to provide electrical power. It also did not matter if the A/C was running at the time or not. I figured out that if I slid the driver's side temperature controller up and down a couple of times the problem would stop. The popping/clicking noise returned about a week later, but went away again after sliding the temperature controller. I have now gone about two weeks with no problems, but feel certain this is just a quick fix and the problem will return.

I have had the same problem for about 1 year now. It gets worse and worse. It is definitely related to the drivers temperature control slide. I think it is the electric motor that controls the flaps inside the HVAC box under the dash (mixes cold and warm air). I took it to the dealer today...they said they couldn't find a problem. I'm going to talk to the tech and try to show him. I'm sure he doesn't want to go through the trouble, but it is really starting to get annoying.

That is definitely the accuator. If you turn the heat controls up, it will quit. But place them at the lowest it will come back.....

Mine was replaced and my 'perculator' disappeared.......
