Does muffler need to be welded

I recently installed the Corsa cat-back exhaust system in the truck. When I did the install a guy at the shop said it would be best to have the connection point between the muffler and cat welded instead of just using the clamp supplied. Any ideas on this, should I get that connection point welded or leave it alone as the clamp is on tight? What about the other two connection points which come after the muffler?

Have a nice day.

If you install the clamp the way the instructions demonstrate, with the seam covered by the body of the clamp, and if the pipe is in there deeply, there is no need to weld. If everything is seated perfectly, and there is no compromise, you should be fine.

Your welder guy is justifiably concerned because he is thinking of carbon monoxide poisoning, among other things. Just one little leak can cause some significant issues and he is assuming that the weak area is that spot. Just make sure this thing is perfectly mated up and clamped.
