I am curious to know how much AC repair might cost me on my pickup. It has had the common problem of leaking refrigerant for a while. Even when I have recharged it isn't as cold as it once was though. I figure it needs to be vacuumed out, have the leak found and recharged only....

Thanks,

$100? $500? $1000?

Really though, that's a question that can't be answered. That's like calling your doctor and saying, "I don't feel well. What's wrong and what will it cost me to get better?"

Without checking it out and knowing what's wrong, no one can tell you what it will cost to fix.

During early spring or just before summer hits.......the auto repair places around here frequently have A/C check ups for about $39-$59.......they check out your system and if it requires service they'll sometimes apply the check up charge to repairs/parts. Some places are better than others......so shop for your best deal.

STORY TIME:

I bought a used truck and the A/C didn't work.....figure I'd be in for a $1000 repair job IF it was the compressor.

I took it to the shop (Honest 1 Auto Care in Portland,OR) and they diagnosed the problem, as a faulty switch and too much pressure (freon or whatever it is nowdays).........they replaced the switch and took some of the gas out then put in leak test fluid and told me to come back in about a week. When I came back they found a leak at valve......they replaced the valve.

So, what I thought was gonna cost me an arm and leg (thinking worst case) came out to be a reasonable $150 (or there abouts). :seeya:

Aloha, Mark
