Torsion Bars

I've got a 2000 GMC Sierra 4x4. Anyone have experience w/ cranking the torsion bars up to make the truck sit level. Is it worth doing and is there any future problems with doing this? Does it affect the ride a great deal? I also heard there are torsion cam adjuster that you can put on. Are those better. Just trying to get some info. Thanks.

Yes, you can crank them up. You should get an alignment afterwards. Make sure you count how many turns so you can return it to stock if you don't like it. If my memory is correct, 4 turns equals about 1 inch. I don't see any benefit to the Fors Keys that some advocate.

Will it cause any problems down the line and does it affect the ride at all?

If you REALLY crank them, you can stress the front half-shafts as the angle can be extreme. I think as long as you keep it 2" or less, you should have no problem. I would expect the ride to be a pretty close to the same. You do slightly change the steering geometry but as long as you get an alignment, I would not expect a diff in ride.

I've had my Tahoe cranked an inch+ for over 50K now.

I've cranked up all my IFS trucks in the past. Including two in use right now. Ride is a little firmer, nothing to worry about, after all it is a truck...Get it aligned. Keep an eye on your front tires and how they wear. I've only cranked them enough to make the truck sit level or at least close to it. Also, you will probably have to readjust your headlights as they will be in oncoming eyes. Cranking them does cause them to sag a little faster, but most people never have to worry about that. Welcome.
