Choke Light Remains On

I've got a 1984 Silverado with a 305, automatic transmission with A/C. Recently, I installed a new electric choke to replace the old broke electric choke, I also replaced the choke wire end that plugs into the electric choke (Original choke plastic connector crumbled from age). After the installation and adjustment, I got in my truck, fired it up and the choke light remained on. I don't know why, but I don't know if the choke is constantly being engaged or if there is something else keeping this light on in the dash. If I unplug the electric choke, the light goes off. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance for any help.

Jeez, you guys are really testing my memory lately.

Did this work BEFORE you replaced the choke? You didn't use a gasket between the choke cover and the housing, did you? The cover (the electrical part of it) gets its ground through the choke housing and if you use a gasket, you insulate the cover electrically from the housing.

The choke gets its power through the oil pressure switch. The light gets its ground through the choke heater windings. So, when power is applied to the choke, i.e. both sides of the bulb, the light goes out.

Start the truck up and check for 12 volts at the choke electrical connector.
