what is needed to install a rear view mirror with compas in a trailblazer that didn't come with one?

Not much - except that you likely don't have the wiring for the compass mirror there. In fact, you probably just the the basic flip lever mirror with no plug going to it at all?

 

Best place to go is www.ebaymotors.com - shop around for an autodimming/compass mirror with the plug and a good chunk of wire harness. They hook up VERY easy... in some cases you can do it with TWO wires - ground and 12+ ignition power. If you get fancier with outside temperature or want the autodim to disable in reverse then you'll have more wires.

What if the Trailblazer had Onstar? Probably wouldn't be replaceable then because the Onstar buttons are integrated into the mirror.

 

Only a problem with active onstar accounts, if the Onstar was disabled it wouldn't be a problem.

I'm confused - everyones confused... Does your truck have OnStar, just no compass?

 

The OnStar mirror is just a mirror with the three OnStar buttons, status light and microphone. It doesn't contain any other OnStar components. If you have OnStar in your truck, and want to add a compass as well, you just need to buy a mirror (off eBay or whatever) that has both compass AND onstar.

 

Theres TONS of different rearview mirrors, with OnStar, without, autodim, compass, compass and temperature, passenger airbag warning, etc etc.

 

Just buy whatever mirror you want, and then you can add whatever necessary wires needed to support the additional functions.
