Flame Throwers??

Anyone know an easy, effective way to install flame throwers on a truck? I've heard that you can simply install a toggle switch inline from the battery to a spark plug to ignite the unburnt fuel, but have read online that this will not work and that you have to install a "kit" to receive good results. (I'm bored here in the cold and need something fun to do to my truck to keep me entertained.)

Would you be interested in a fake rocket launcher instead? Maybe somebody has one for sale on eBay?

The flame thrower mod will not work on fuel injected engines On carbuerated engines it kills the ignition then a spark plug near tthe exhaust tip ignites the raw fuel.

From what I've read, it'll work with EFI engines if you don't have catalytic converters. The converters use up any unburnt fuel leaving nothing for the spark plugs to ignite. I've had my converters gutted so I'm fine in that category-----SHHHHH don't tell anyone.......(Gotta admit though that I LOVE the sound of my exhaust with the gutted converters----made the Flow's that much louder.) I saw the episode of Trucks! and looked up the kit that they were promoting---only problem is that the kit is about $170. Was hoping for a simpler/cheaper way to get the same result. Thanks for the replies!

I would imagine all you would need is a small propane cylinder, a source of spark, and a backpressure preventer, so your bottle doesn't suck the flame in.

Seems pretty easy to me.

Except that I have Side Pipes, so it would be somewhat pointless.

It will work on EFI engines.. My friend has a 1990 Silverado and all we did was remove the cat, install a spark plug into the tail pipe, run a wire from the tach wire to a toggle switch, then from there to a coil off of like a toyota celica (all we had laying around). Attatch the spark plug wire to the coil and to the spark plug.. All he had to do was rev up his truck, flip the switch and it put on a show.. It is a lot of fun at night messing with people.. his truck is a manual so it was a little easier to do while moving, press in the clutch hit the switch and press the gas..
