How difficult to install Posi?

I am very technically inclined. I like to do as much as I can myself instead of paying someone else for something that I can learn how to do. How difficult is it to install a Posi unit. I have a 2004 silverado with a locking rear diff. You are probably asking why I want to change it. I want to start putting alot of power to the ground and I want to replace it with one that can handle the stress.

Will it be just need to unbolt the old locking diff and bolt in the Eaton? And will i need to make sure it is aligned like i would if i were replacing the gears?

I have heard that the stock locking diff starts to fail when you put 300-350hp to the rear wheels is this true?

I have seen some of them go out with completely stock trucks.. If you are pretty good mechanically I have heard its not that hard.. I had my mechanic do mine because I swapped gears at the same time and didnt have the dial indicator and stuff.. I got a Detroit True trac I am really enjoying it..

Not difficult at all. Just make sure you check the backlash with a dial indicator and gear pattern which some gear marking compound before you take it apart. 9 times out of 10 you wont have to re-shim it. While you are this far, spend the extra time and money and re-place the pinion bearings and all the seals in the unit and make sure to replace the crush sleeve too. Only an extra 60-80 dollars. Auburn Gear also makes a very high quality unit with the carrier machined to OEM dimensions and has a 3 year exchange program should it wear out.
