keyless entry dead...

thought the battery in the remote died but it was still live and kickin...changed it out anyways...keyless entry still doesnt work. cant seem to find a fuse anywhere that deals with it. anyone know where the remote's receiver is located in the truck? its a 2003 sierra. wanna check the receiver to see if it's even getting power.

i also tried reprogramming the remote...using the following steps...

close all doors...

hold power unlock button on door...

cycle ignition on and off twice...

enter programming mode...

hold down lock and unlock buttons on remote...

door locks never cycled so theres definately a problem with either the remote or the receiver...

im not too terribly electrically inclined, but is there a way to test the remote itself? to ensure there is power when i press a button?

Have you got a second remote? If so, try it. That'll tell you where the problem is.

Thats weird cause on my 2000 GMC Sierra the remote i was using stopped working and i replaced the battery in it and reset it...it worked for like a day or two...so now i am using the other remote that i have and it works fine...so i am wondering if that other remote is bad...i thought it might be the receiver but looks like everything is okay

They have a tool that tests the transmitter at the dealership. Now i dont know if they would charge you more for a new remote or to test the old one.

turns out it was the remote, i used a friends tahoe remote...programmed it for my truck and his worked...so i headed to the gmc dealer...choked up $45.00....ya...$45.00....and everythings back to normal again. i guess it's worth it in some ways...since in the last 2 days with a dead remote i've almost locked my keys in my truck 3 times. for those who dont know how to program the remote (fob)...here goes...

get in, close all doors...

hold down 'unlock' on the door....

while holding 'unlock' cycle ignition twice (on, off, on, off)

door locks should cycle...you're in program mode

depress 'lock & unlock' on the remote for as long as it takes for locks to cycle (10 sec.)

turn ignition to run to exit program mode

voila, remote is programmed
