bed rails

i am a novice with truck accessories and i have an '03 sierra sportside with plastic bed rail covers on sides and tailgate. How much of a pain is it gonna be to install chrome bed rails with the covers on (or do i have to take them off) and any advice on brand. Any comments would be great. Thank you.

Putco fits great, fits into the stake pockets and installs in about 30 minutes tops.See the picture below:

Here's another vote for Putco. I have a set on my truck, an 04 Crew. The crew cabs also have factory bed caps. I just installed the Putcos into the stake pockets. As stated above about a 30 minute install. Helps to have another person to help hold the rails.

BTW I would suggest no matter what brand of rail you choose you pick on that has an end that allows you to tie through the rail. I had solid tubes on a previous truck. If you haul and want to tie, solid rails make it very difficult to use the rails.
