Wind noise or howling

I have search the forum and can’t find any info on this problem I have. I hope it not isolated to just my truck. I am getting wind noise from what sounds like behind the glove box or the base of the windshield at speeds over 35. I only get this noise when I have my AC unit in recirculation mode. When I turn recirc off the noise stops. That leads me to think it is in the flap that closes to block outside air when in recirc. I looked behind the glove box and can see the flap and it has foam around the edges to make a good seal. I guess mine isn’t sealing good because when I push on it in recirc when it is closed the noise will go away. I know what the problem is but want to know if anybody else has had this problem and what the fix is.

Hey the player, I have the exact same noise, it starts at 40 mph. Tried recirc and no change. Removed air deflector, no change. It started about 4 months ago after 3 years of no noise. If you find out a cause, please post the fix.

Mine only does it when Recirc is on. The AC fan can be on or off and it does it as long as Recirc is on. I know mine is caused by the flap that opens and closes when Recirc is changed. I am just going to take mine to the dealer and see what they come up with for a fix.

I took my truck into the dealer for this and apperantly this is not an isolated problem. They said that from 03 up there are 2 companies that make the HVAC units. They are having problems with the unit from one company and they told me the corporate Tech people are working on a fix. So right now I have to live with this problem until they come up with a fix because I have the messed up companies unit. They even told me that they had a used 03 on their lot that was doing the same thing as mine. I guess that is supposed to make me feel better.

Do '06 trucks have this problem to? How do you know which is the defective system?

Well just to make sure I wasn't alone I test drove the 2003 that they told me made the same noise. It made the exact same noise as mine and went away when I turned recirc off, so it had the same problem. If you get wind noise in the dash with recirc on then you have the defalt system. They said they were working on a fix and to check back with them. Thats all I know!

Anybody else have this problem? Anybody know of any TSBs that have came out on this. I got the standard "GM is working on it so check back" answer from dealer.
