2000 z71 gear ratio

I am probably going to purchase a 2000 ext. cab GMC z71. I have a question about the gear ratio. I am afraid it has 3.42s. It runs about 2100 rpm at 75mph. Is it possible to have a 3.42 in a 4x4? I would have thought it should have been 3.73 or 4.10. My current 1999 reg cab, 2wd sierra has 3.42 and it is a pig, especially when towing. Thanks.

Also, how much Hp and Tq does this year 5.3 have? Was it still 270 and 315 respectively?

Its possible it has 3.42 gears in it..............most Z71 will have the 3.73........I have a 2000 Z71 5.3.....I beleive its rated at 285hp or 295hp.......not sure abou the torque specs.......its a great truck.....I love it....

A 2000 Z71 will almost surely have 3.73 gears, as these were standard equipment.

Thanks. I am test driving the truck now and have the vin and glove box codes. Could I tell from either? P.S. it is the slt trim and loaded if that makes any difference.

Look for one of these in the glove box.

 

GMC: Pontiac East Assembly

GT4: 3.73:1 Rear Axle Ratio

GT5: 4.10:1 Rear Axle Ratio

GU6: 3.42:1 Rear Axle Ratio

It says gt4 and g80. The g80 is a locking rear right? Thanks for everyones help.

Yep,You got 3.73's with the locking diff.
