DRL epidemic

There seems to be a sudden breakout of trucks running around with 1 DRL out!  I went on a 200 mile interstate drive this afternoon and seen 8 trucks on the highway with a DRL out!

I guess you can't check them yourself  ???

Well, with 1 out you're half way there ;)

I really don't like drl's, and about the only good thing I can say about them is that at least they burn out quickly.  The main thing I don't like is the added glare.  If I can see your truck without them, you don't need them.  The amber colored drl's are far less obnoxious, but they're still a waste.

When I lost the first DRL on my '99 Sierra, I put long-life replacements in both and didn't have any further problems.  Now I need to find long-life AMBER replacements for the AV.  I've learned to regularly check that both are working when I get the chance behind a clean vehicle.

Some folks like 'em, some don't. Some folks have 'em, some don't.

Do you remember if they were all on the driver's side?  I have noticed that the majority of the DRL's blown have always been on the driver's side.  My '99 always blew that bulb first for some reason.  The stock bulbs lasted me about a year on the '99.  I switched to the GE 3157KR and had no problems.  I have checked them in reflections off other vehicles or glass buildings.

I see quite a few GMs running around w/ 1 out also - does seem to me like the driver's side is the more common???

They really are ridiculously easy to change, compared to some older cars where you had to get a 6th grader to help because his was the only hand size that could contort to get the bulb out and in from the back!!  ;)

Sorry Friz, I didn't see the other post.   I posted due to my observations that afternoon

My point wasn't if people like them or don't.  It was that they burn out quick.

Sorry to upset you, geez

There was a TSB out awhile back relating to this.  Seems there's too much heat behind the driver side drl area, which dramatically shortens the life of the lamp.  There's a "long-life" replacement available.

All I know is both of mine blew at the same time. LOL  A good way to check 'em is to park somewhere where the truck won't roll and leave it in neutral...I do it all the time.
