My first Z-28 was a top of the line '85 Z with every option, including the then awesome TPI 305. Man I loved that car even though, by today's standards, it was a real dog in the performance department. Man oh man did that TPI setup on top of that engine reminded me of the movie Alien when the alien was sitting on top of that guy's face. It looked really nasty! But finances, or lack thereof, forced me to sell that car. It's amazing what one will do for....um....family! Why can't I be selfish as hell? :D

 

Today, I was reading the March issue of Hot Rod and when I first saw the new concept Camaro, I wasn't really all that impressed by the looks as much as I was of the news that GM may bring it back. After reading the article, daydreaming of a new Z in my garage and all the mods I could do, I'm really starting to salivate at the prospect of owning another one. I already told my wife that no matter what she says, I'm buying one and no expense will be spared! She reluctantly agreed and if you knew my wife, you'd say that's a "hell yeah" on her part. She never agrees with anything I do!

I used to own a 1988 Iroc-Z, 5.7, white with red trim and red interior. Sounds aweful, but it was a beautiful car and very fun to drive.

 

Those lines are very sharp and I still cruise e-bay once in a while, looking for a very low mile car like that for reasonable money. I sold it after I got married because a car seat and a Camaro just don't mix.

 

This is sad, we traded the Iroc for a Buick Regal!

My first car was a Z-28 from 1982, the first year of the 3rd generation. It was 8 years old when I got it and it only had 12,000 miles. I bought it from my mom for $1 and it was garage kept.

 

It had a 160hp carberated 305 and a turbo 200 tranny, what a dog. It ran the quarter mile in about 16.7 and had a top speed of about 117mph(Not in the quarter). It's funny to think that my 4x4 pick-up has almost twice the horsepower and is almost a second and a half quicker in the quarter.

 

That car I only had about 4 months. Inexperience and teenaged bravery helped me crash it into a telephone poll in the rain and total it.

 

I'm excited about the new camaro as well. When I finish paying off my truck in the next 2 years, I'll be looking at buying a second vehicle. And if GM does make the car at a good value like the old F-bodies were, this could very well be the car.

The old saying "Hind Sight is 20/20"!

 

Camaro's I had in order:

67 SS/RS w/295 hp 350 (first year for 350 in Camaro)

68 Z28 w/290 hp 302

78 Z28 4 spd (nice handling car, but no power, that was until I massaged it)

80 Z28 4 spd (nice handling car, but no power)

67 SS/RS w/295 hp 350 (sold it in 96, still see it around, new owner is neglecting it)

 

If Chevy does it right, I might consider putting a new Camaro next to my 03' Silverado SS.

My very first car was a '69 GTO that I bought off of someone my sister knew when she was stationed at Holloman AFB. I had skimped and saved since I started mowing lawns when I was 10. He bought it new in '69 for his son, but his son wanted a Vette and his dad told him to buy on on his own. This thing was cherry with the exception of some minor rust. It had a 400 and a Muncie 4-speed. After I'd been in the Army for a couple of years, I decided that feeding that thing was costing me a fortune ($.88 a gallon) and sold it.....for a stinkin' brand new '89 Mazda pickup. :D

My first car was a 1970 Monte Carlo with the SS options. The Monte SS didnt officially come out until 1971. It had a 454 originally with full guage package, leather seats, Turbo 400 hydromatic with the horseshoe shifter, 12 bolt rear, power windows, tilt steering, factory air and wheel skirts! Man when I bought it in 1987 it was a basket case. The original motor was gone and it was several colors. I actually had to borrow a wheel to get it back home because it only had 3 wheels on it. I think I payed 750 bucks for it. I sank close to 9 grand into it. New fenders, quaters, carpet, headliner,vynal top, factory rally rims, rechromed the bumpers and dropped in a built 402 BB with a fairbanks tranny and total new suspension. Well after I had it all finished I drove it for 65 thousand miles and thats when the old saying about cars renewing themselves a piece at a time came to mind. So I sold it for 9800.00 bucks in 1990 and bought a Honda Accord 2 door coupe because of the great gas mileage. To this day I can't even look at another Monte Carlo of that vintage without getting sick. Talk about hindsight being 20/20.
