Changing ignition switch

Has anybody done this on a veichle with air bags?

I have an '00 Tahoe and i noticed the security light came on while drive a few days ago while driving and then after the car sat for a couple days it wouldnt start. Also noticed the cargo light came on for not apparent reasong when everything was shut and all sensors checked. so i tested the starter and its not getting juice when the key is in the crank position.

After doing a little research I found that the ignition switch is a problem on some '00 chevys.

Is this a real pain to change. am i getting in way over my head for this job?

Thanks for any help!

It's not a bad job, but I would suggest getting your hands on a repair manual or even ALLDATAdiy and review the procedure and all steps to see if you feel comfortable doing the work yourself.

The steering wheel will have to be removed if I remember correctly, and you disable the air-bag system by pulling the fuse, but care has to be taken when handling the air bag so that it does not discharge due to static electricity. :dupe:
