Strange noise coming from passenger side

Recommended Posts

I noticed a strange popping noise coming from the passenger side, mainly when I'm stopped, but it does do it sometimes when I'm driving.  The noise sounds like it is right beneath the passenger's feet and most of the time they can feel the pop on their feet.  I think it may have something to do with the torsion bars ( maybe not greased up) , but I'm kind of puzzled by this.  If anyone out there has any comments or suggestions on what this might be, I would appreciate it.

THANKS in advance!

The torsion bars do not need to be greased.

This is a hard one.  Kinda hard to diagnose.  might have to ride in the pass seat with the window down and try and isolate it

Yours is kinda new to be doing what my '89 short bed did, but you might want to check and make sure the cab mounting bolts and isolators are tight.  It took me a year to finally find it.  When you hit the gas or the brakes, the cab rocks ever so slightly, and if one of these is loose, you'll hear a popping noise from the threads of the mounting bolts rubbing against the mounting holes.  Good luck.

That's a good possabillity especially if there are Nerf Bars on the truck...

I agree.  I have nerf bars on mine and they seem to make a squeaking noise after a while.  I get under and retorque them and the noise goes away.  I was going to put some lock-tite on them this last time, but I'm going to be putting a body lift on soon, so I'll just get them at that time.  I have to turn into my steep driveway from flat ground, and I think the flexing of the truck is what causes it.  When it makes the noise, that's the only time it does it.

Good luck.

I don't have nerf bars on the truck at the moment, I will look into the suggestions, I may just end up taking it to the dealer

Thanks again

I would check the bolt up crossmember just below the oil pan.  Actually I would remove it and see if you can duplicate the problem.  The fix is to cut up a plastic coolant jug and insert it between the frame and crossmember, take a hammer and drive the bolts through, and tighten very tight.

It took me a while to pin this one down, but it happened more while turning and going forward of backward.

Good luck

I had a similar noise on my 2000. Ended up being the heat shield under the passenger's side. Made a popping sound when I came to a stop. All the bolts were just snug and not tight.
