GM noob tuneup

Hi,

 

I just bought a 2002 Yukon XL Denali. It has 86000 miles on it. I would like to do routine maintenance not knowing how well the previous owner took care of it. I bought a Haynes manual. I have done maintenance on smaller cars (Civic & Altima) for several years but not a truck this big. I do have Craftsman 3 ton floor jack, jackstands, and common tools.

1. On transfer case, my GMC owner's manual said to use regular AT Dexron III. I searched this forum and a lot of ppl are using GM Autotrac II. Is the AT fluid ok?

2. On jacking up the front of the truck, do you use floor jack on the side frame towards the front wheel and put a jack stand next to it? Or do you guys use the middle crossmember?

3. Copper spark plugs OK? I prefer to change them often (like every 15000 miles) than the platinum/iridium ones.

4. AT filter & gasket: which brand? Does the small filter seal need to be changed too? How do you guys take the seal out?

Throw the Haynes manual in the trash and get the Factory Service Manual

your going to get the correct info and not be running in circles.

Use the OEM plugs and forget about the old 15000mi tuneups.
