Revised leaf spring insulators

I bit the bullet and ordered the newer leaf spring insulators, P/N 15604174. Unbelievably expensive ($48/each from PartsZone), so I don't want to lose any of them.

Should they be epoxied on or something? They look like they slip over the leaf, but I'm afraid they'll slip off after awhile.

$48 !!!!???? each ???!!!! yikes, dude what are they made of? unobtainium? Exhaust pipe hangers work good, I use a rubber PVC pipe reducer from sears @ $1.39 each, If they fall off, eh who cares.. the OEM ones are junk are gonna get busted up and fall off anyway.... $48

Yeah, they weren't cheap, but I've tried replacing the stock ones (they broke or fell off), used the "Help!" brand ones, which also fell off. I figured that if they work, they'll be worth the cash - I'm sick of the clunks.

They're just hard rubber, although they do have a pad of either hard plastic or metal molded into them. I assume that part faces the spring above the insulator - they didn't come with instructions.

Don't know why they're so expensive. They do slide over the spring like a big square sock, but there's no detent to catch the hole for the old-style plastic insulator.

I was thinking of using some of that windshield butyl sealant. That stuff is tough and doesn't completely harden. The epoxy that came with the Help! brand pads didn't hold at all even though I sanded and cleaned the spring.

Geez, I just used $12 radiator hose. I cut 3" sections and just slid them on. The slap is gone and they've been on for years.

Not sure if anyone cares, but the new GM insulators are a pretty tight fit. I had to pound them on with a 5lb sledg hammer.

I squirted some windshield sealant into each one before pounding them on. Hopefully, between the sealant and the tight fit, they won't be coming off.

They do make a nice difference - no more spring slapping...
