Checking out the engine bay on my '05 5.3 cCC yesterdaya nd smelled coolant, so I started looking and found the area around the A/C pump wet with coolant. It goes to the dealer to day to check it out. anyone else have a leaks in this area or have a guess what it might be? I quickly checked and looked at all the hoses and didn't see any obviouse place it was coming from.

From what I've read on the board, the water pump gasket is a common leak point. Might be running down to the compressor. I can't remember where the compressor is off the top of my head.

It's not usually the water pump that is the problem. It is your water pump gasket. Replace with Fel-Pro. You will need 2 of them.

This will fix your problem!

what is the weep hole for?

The weephole is provided in the pump housing to indicate possible pump seal leak. When you see coolant dripping from the weephole, you have a bad water pump seal, and need to replace the pump. Normally the weephole should stay dry.

I have a 2005 5.3 cc and I had to have the water pump replaced at about 10,000 mis. Mine sprung a major leak and started out dripping and then it started pouring out in the driveway one day. I had to have it towed in because it wasn't anyway that I could drive it. It made a major mess so don't wait to take it in.

Are these water pumps prone to leaking after one year or less? Is this a known issue with these water pumps? Is this something I need to inspect often to make sure I do not get stranded?

As you can tell, its happend to quite a few people, myself included, mine is leaking. slowly. Yes it is a weak point on the trucks, though usually you don't start seeing the problems on vehicles under 50,000 miles..

uh...oh..i've had a slow leak for a couple of years....at least, it's not constant, i can't trace it or even pinpoint the reason for that small puddle i see once in a blue moon...(2000silv4.8)...it comes from that exact area now that you've got me thinking..thanx... i've been searching two hours looking for information (...ok...sympathy) actually pertaining to a f***ing vehicle, i like it here. i no longer have time to vent about my hub assembly...will have to come back

It's not usually the water pump that is the problem. It's the GASKET.
