28" Wheels on 05 Denali

Sorry to bother you guys. A friend of mine has a 2005 Denali with 24" wheels. He wants to switch to 26's or 28's. The 26's will go on just fine but I know some modifications (lifting) will have to be done to fit 28's. Does anyone have any experience with this - any tips? Thanks in advance for any help.

Why is he doing this to a nice truck like Denalli? Wheels that large place substantial load on the axle shafts and the differential gears. These trucks were not meant to be abused in this manner.

The best truck to put monster tires on is a 1 ton with heavy duty axles and differentials.

You've got to be kidding? What a total abortion for a nice truck. You can surely count the axles going to hell in a short time.

Not to mention that even with 22's and beyond, these rides start to look like toys instead of trucks. I've got no problem with anyone customizing their trucks, but after a while it starts to look ridiculous.

I really wasn't looking for opinions on large wheel & tire combinations. I was just hoping that someone here would know what it would take to fit a 28 inch wheel on a Denali. Personally, I am a fan of large wheels - 24 inch being the largest I have personally used. I say if he is willing to spend the cash for big brakes, big wheels, big tires and suspension modification - more power to him!

Just take a sawzall to the fenders and make them fit. Hell with as goofy as the 28's will look all the attention will be drawn to them or the driver and no one will even notice the hacking on the fenders! Just make sure the wheels have little back spacing so they stick way out...that's cool!!!!!!!!!!

If your in South Florida call Good Roads they are doing it all the time

Hope your friend has an extra $ 10K for the Wheels & tires

I have a friend that just put 24's on and it cost him $ 7.5K

You should see the Late 80's Caprices and Buick regals In So. FLA. w/ 28's on them they look like old time Wagon Trains. Spending 10 K on a Nickle car More money than brains.

Of course Down Here we Have Dealers doing the "rent to Own" on Wheels & tires. And I ain't Kidding.

He's ready to spend the 10K for the wheels & tires - already gave it to me actually when I found a deal for 9995.00 plus freight. I was just a little worried about fitment and suspension issues since the Denali has a more "high end" suspension than say a Tahoe or Silverado (I believe).

Modifying a truck is one thing, building a circus wagon is another.

BTW, just about anybody with any common sense will first determine if the wheels will fit the vehicle, and then buy the wheels. Especially for $ 10k. Good luck with the mod.

You mean these rubber strips are the tires? I like to see this thing off-road. You bend these rims before you drive this thing off the showroom floor or the pedestal platform that it seems to be sitting on.

I am wondering what will yours truly do when he sees some clown in a Denali truck with 30 in diameter rims. Quick, where is that $ 15k for a set of 35 inch diameter ones? Will figure out how to put them on later......
